MORIGAON, April 27 - Normal life was paralysed today in Morigaon and parts of Nagaon and Kamrup (Metro) districts due to the 12-hour central Assam bandh called by three tribal organisations protesting the non-inclusion of Tiwa MLA Rama Kanta Deori in the State Cabinet expansion.
Security were tightened at Jagiroad and adjacent areas. One person was arrested in Morigaon town for indulging in violence. The bandh evoked total response in seven tribal blocks of Morigaon district.
Shops and business establishments remained closed while vehicles stayed off the roads. Sporadic violent incidents were reported at Jonbil, Kumoi on the Jagiroad-Morigaon road, as protesters pelted stones at vehicles. However, on the NH-37, ASTC buses plied with police escort.
