Bandh paralyses life at Haflong

HAFLONG, May 11 - The normal life here was totally paralysed on Wednesday resulting to utter inconvenience as the three wings of the Congress, viz. Dima Hasao Mahila Congress, Dima Hasao Youth Congress and NSUI called a 12-hour Dima Hasao bandh from 5 am to 5 pm demanding safe release of Jiban Kemprai who was kidnapped by some unknown miscreants on January 27 this year.

All the business establishments as well as financial institutions, including banks remained closed, while all the private vehicles were off the roads during the bandh period. However, the education department, under the administrative control of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) provided two buses for the students of Haflong Government College to appear for their examinations on the bandh day.

The organizations that gave the bandh call warned that if the government failed to secure safe release of the hostage, they would launch a strong agitation very soon.
