Bandh hits normal life in Dimoria area

By Correspondent

JORABAT, Sept 12 - The 12-hour Assam bandh called by the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad in protest against the Centres decision to grant entry and stay rights to Hindu migrants who had fled from Bangladesh and Pakistan, affected normal life in Dimoria as all modes of vehicles remained off the roads and business establishments remained closed. The bandh was supported by several other organisations.

Except for some small and government vehicles, all other vehicles, including public buses, kept off the road. The otherwise busy roads and market places in the fringe areas of Guwahati city and neigbouring Dimoria region, wore a deserted look. Shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed.

Apart from some minor incidents of breaking of window panes of vehicles and burning of tyres on the roads in the morning hours in some interior areas of Dimoria, no major incident was reported till filing of this report.
