Bandh hits life in Jorhat, Golaghat, Majuli dists

JORHAT, Dec 10 - The impact of the 11-hour State handh had full impact in the Upper Assam districts with normal life completely paralysed.

In Jorhat, Golaghat and Majuli river island district business, commercial establishments, banks and educational institutions remained closed while attendance in Government offices was nil.

Vehicular traffic kept off the roads and few vehicles that came out were stopped by bandh supporters with glasses of some vehicles were broken due to stone-pelting. A truck from Uttar Pradesh carrying goods was among the vehicles that came under wrath of the protesters in the morning at the AT Road here.

Protesters on two-wheelers moved around the town since morning and burnt tryes on the streets and the roads across the district including the NH-37.

Protesters were seen enforcing the bandh in a few shops, a flour mill and godowns here after doors of the establishment were reportedly found opened in the morning.

Policemen were deployed across the district in large numbers but there were no reports of clashes between police and bandh supporters.

AAU students protest: The students of the Assam Agricultural University at Borbheta (Jorhat), here too today protested against CAB by staging a sit-in demonstration in front of the university gate.

Opposing CAB the students shouted slogans against the BJP Governments at the Centre and State and also the BJP leaders in Delhi and Assam.

The students chanting Joy Aai Asom pledged not let suppress the voice of the Assamese people by the Governments.

On Monday night a group of youths staged a nude protest in front of BJP Rajya Sabha MP and former Jorhat Lok Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa at Hatigarh outskirts here. They shouted slogans against CAB and Tasa and chanted Joy Aai Asom.
