Ban on sale of fire crackers

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 18 - The Kamrup Metro district administration has banned the wholesale and retail sale of any kind of fire crackers with immediate effect and until further orders in the entire district.

It has been observed in past elections that fire crackers form a part and parcel of every victory procession. There have been instances in the recent past in various parts of the country like the Kollam temple tragedy where fire crackers kept for various occasions have proved to be disastrous. There is a probability of disaster from the possession/stocking/sale/use of fire crackers after the results of the Assembly elections 2016 are declared, said an order issued by Dr M Angamuthu, District Magistrate of Kamrup Metro and District Election Officer of the Kamrup Metro Electoral District.

He added, In the interest of the safety of life and property of the common people and in compliance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India and the power conferred upon me as per the Explosive Act 1884... ban the wholesale and retail selling of any kind of crackers with immediate effect and until further orders.
