GUWAHATI, May 17 - The chairman of Haflong Town Committee has promulgated an immediate ban on the sale and use of polythene bags, plastic water or tea glasses, thermocol, etc., an official release stated.
All businessmen and shopkeepers, including vegetable vendors, are prohibited to sell and use these items as they cause pollution, drain blockage, health hazard, etc.
The order further stated that penalty for noncompliance will invite a fine of Rs 5,000. The Haflong Town Committee has also urged the public in general to cooperate in making Haflong a polythene-free town in the larger interest of public.
