Balichang Police Outpost gheraoed

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Nov 20 � Agitated people of the Dhuli and Diring areas in the Biswanath subdivision of Sonitpur district gheraoed the Balichang Police Outpost on Wednesday in protest against the failure of the police to trace two abducted youths, Ranjit Munda and Hiralal Gour, and businessman Navarang Sharma since the last one month.

The protesters were led by the Asam Chah Mazdoor Sangha, AASU, AATTSA, AASAA and Pub Sonitpur Santras Virodhi Abodo Suraksha Samiti. They shouted slogans against anti-social activities like extortion, kidnapping, murder, etc., which have been going on in the northern part of the sub-division since the last couple of months.

Later, the protesters held a street meeting and set a deadline of seven days to rescue the abducted persons, failing which they threatened to launch an intensive agitation. They also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

On the other hand, in protest against the rampant extortion of money by ultras from operators of mini public transport vehicles like tempos and autorickshaws at Rajgarh, Gohpur, the latter did not ply their vehicles on the Rajgarh-Gohpur Road on Wednesday.
