Balanced development possible: Sonowal

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 7 - Reiterating that a society where equality and balanced development of all sections of the people can be achieved, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said that capability and talent should be the only determinants for a person to reach a respectable position in the society.

Taking part in the biennial session of the Sadharan Jati Parishad at the District Library in Lakhimpur today as chief guest, the Chief Minister appreciated the Parishads endeavour in this regard.

Saying that in todays highly competitive world one must be capable to compete to prove his worth, Sonowal said that the government has started the Gunotsav programme to improve the quality of education so that competent, honest and committed citizens could be produced.

If a nation has to excel in all spheres, then its citizens must be capable, competent, dedicated and honest who would be able to compete at the highest level to establish their country as the best at the world stage, he said.

Asserting that material riches alone would not be enough to give lifes satisfaction, Sonowal said that character building through spiritual strength was of prime importance in todays world.

Only clean thoughts and actions can help one attain true happiness in life. Good human beings must be produced by the education system and not just successful human beings who would do anything to achieve success, he added.

The Chief Minister also called upon the people to set an example of dedication towards society and remove corrupt practices from the system. Rooting out corruption is the governments prime objective and all measures would be taken to achieve that goal, Sonowal added.
