Bal Sahitya Purashkar for Bandita Phukan

GUWAHATI, Aug 17 � Noted author Bandita Phukan who has contributed to different genres of Assamese literature has been named for the Bal Sahitya Puraskar instituted by the Sahitya Akademi.

The award carries Rs 50,000.

An elated Phukan while talking to The Assam Tribune said that she felt honoured as the award was recognition of her love for children. Her book Seujia Dharani has been voted for the award.

�Curiosity about children made me write books about children,� she said adding that writing about children was a most relaxing and enriching experience for her.

It needs to be mentioned here that the author who has earned fame for her science fiction, novels, short stories, translations, etc. has a total of 55 children books to her credit. On the other hand, her total published work is 83.

Starting her journey in the children world with Jumi, Rima Aru Hihat, the author has churned out 25 original children works so far. But till date her favourite remains Jumi Rima Aru Hihat as it is rich with childhood experiences of the author herself. The popularity of this book can be gauged from the fact that it ran into seven editions.

�Childhood is a period that continues to fill the heart till the end of life,� said Phukan mentioning that inspiration for her children works comes from her own reminiscence as well.
