GUWAHATI, March 5 - The Court of Sessions Judge, Guwahati today granted bail to the Assam Engineering College students who were arrested on charges of resorting to vandalism at a wedding venue in Jalukbari locality and manhandling people there recently.
Advocate Bijon Mahajan appeared on behalf of the accused students, while Additional Public Prosecutor G Das represented the State of Assam.�
The bail was granted keeping in view�the academic career of the accused. Those granted bail include Hirokjyoti Boro, Harshajit Sarma, Manas Baishya, Mrinmoy Chakraborty, Gautam Mayong, Manas Pratim Sarma, Diganta Nath and Shibam Karmakar. The accused were allowed to go on bail against a bail amount of Rs 20,000 with two sureties of the like amount. They have been asked to report to the investigating officer once a week.
