Bail of rape accused police officer cancelled

By Correspondent

SHILLONG, Sept 11 - Meghalaya High Court today cancelled the bail order of rape accused police officer, Nurul Islam. He was later remanded in judicial custody till September 21.

A lower Court earlier approved the bail application of Islam. Justice TNK Singh in his order said: the order was passed by learned special judge (POCSO) by non-application of mind and also ignoring the relevant material indicating prima facie involvement of the accused. The impugned orders are illegal and perverse orders.

The Court also directed the trial Court to complete the case expeditiously. It further said that the trial Court may consider the bail application of the accused, according to laws and principles.

In the evening, Islam was produced before a court of district and session judge which remanded him in judicial custody. Islam, as the then sub-inspector of Ampati police station in South West Garo Hills in 2013, allegedly raped two girls at Ampati police station at gun point.
