Bahari to host 38th Haridev Sangha meet

BARPETA, Jan 19 � Bahari, where the great saint Mahapurush Sri Sri Harideva established his first Satra, is all set to host the 38 th annual conference of Uttar Pub Bharat Haridev Sangh, the apex body of the disciples of Haridev sect of the region. The conference will be held at Bangayangiri at Bahari in Barpeta district with a three-day programme starting January 22 next.

Several committees under the main reception panel headed by Sailendra Kumar Goswami and Brajendra Nath Talukdar, president and secretary respectively of the reception committee are working round the clock to welcome the delegates and observers across the region without any hitch. The preparation is in its final stage and the organisers are hopeful of making the event an unprecedented one.

The reception committee along with the executive committee of Uttar Pub Bharat Haridev Sangh led by Radha Bora as president and Jaydeb Goswami as secretary have chalked out a detailed programme for the aforementioned three days.

The event will start with the morning prayers at 5 am on January 22 followed by a plantation drive by Harekrishna Pathak, and subsequent naam prasanga by the devotees of the Satra. An all-Assam quiz competition in two categories will begin at 10.30 am. While the competition for �A� category from Class VI to X will be held on the life of Mahapurush Sri Sri Haridev, the competition for �B� category from Class XI to graduate standard will be held on the philosophy of the saint.

A book fair to be held on the ocassion will be inaugurated by Brajen Talukdar, member of the trustees of Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani at 12.30 pm. After the naam prasanga by women devotees, the ceremonial lamp will be lit by Priyanath Das, chief devotee of Bahari Satra. Subsequently, Bhagawat paath will be done by Dwijendra Nath Goswami, Satradhikar of Bandali Satra of Chenga. The delegates� camp will be formally inaugurated by Birendra Nath Dev Sarma, retired headmaster of Bahari High School. Ojapali and Satriya Naam will be performed in the evening.

The association�s insigne will be hoisted by Radha Borah, president of Uttar Pub Bharat Haridev Sangha at 9 am on January 23 to be followed by another 37 flags by an equal number of disciples. Homage to the departed souls will be paid, which will be initiated by Jaydev Goswami, secretary of the association. A symposium on �Religious Ideology and Philosophy of Mahapurush Sri Sri Haridev� is scheduled to be held at 10 am.

The symposium will be inaugurated by Basisthadev Sarma, Burha Satradhikar of Barpeta Satra, and will be presided over by Dr Gobinda Ballav Goswami, retired professor of Sankardev Mahavidyalay, Shillong. Dr Lakshahira Das, retired Head of the Education Department at Gauhati University, Dr Satyendra Narayan Goswami, retired Rabindra Nath Thakur professor of Gauhati University, Puspadev Goswami, founder secretary of the association, writer Phula Bora, besides Haramohan Dev Goswami, retired principal of Tarini Charan Girls� Higher Secondary School will particiapte in the symposium as appointed speakers.

A general meeting of the life members of the association will be held in the afternoon and a new executive committee will be constituted. The ceremonial lamp will be lit at 5.30 pm by Kularanjan Bhuyan, working president of the association. After reading of the Gurucharit by Sashimohan Goswami, Satradhikar of Bejkuchi Satra, a cultural programme will be held in the evening and will be inaugurated by Jatindra Nath Goswami.

A cultural procession to be inaugurated by Dr Satyendra Narayan Goswami, retired Rabindranath Tagore professor of Gauhati University will be taken out at 9 am on the concluding day, i.e., on January 24. The open meeting scheduled at 2 pm that will be presided over by Radha Bora and will be inaugurated by Dr Akhil Kumar Medhi, former Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University. Haridev Jyoti, the souvenir to be published on the occasion will be released in the meeting by Kanaksen Deka, former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha. Mahapurush Sri Sri Haridev Prapanch, a commemorative book on the life of the saints by Haramohan Dev Goswami and Mahapurush Sri Sri Haridev Sarcha, an anthology by Uttar Pub Bharat Haridev Sangh will be released by Dr Satyendra Narayan Goswami and Umakanta Dev Sarma Shastri respectively.

Dr Pitambar Deva Goswami, Satradhikar of Auniati Satra of Majuli will grace the open meeting as the chief guest. Professor Dipak Kumar Sarma, Vice Chancellor of Kumar Bhaskar Varma University of Sanskrit and Ancient Studies at Nalbari will be the distinguished guest and Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharyya will attend the meeting as guests of honour.

A mass lighting programme will be held at the venue at 5.30 pm, which will be followed by a cultural show to be inaugurated by Dr Kiran Bayan, retired principal of Madhab Choudhury College of Barpeta. The organisers have urged all sections of people irrespective of caste, creed, religion and political affiliation to cooperate in the three-day conference.
