Baghmara holds silent rally

TURA, Oct 29 - The people of Baghmara town, including the administration and local residents, on Thursday held a silent rally seeking the unconditional release of the BDO, who was kidnapped.

More than 1,000 residents of the town marched from the Rangku Memorial playground covering the areas like the Civil Hospital before coming back to the starting point. They appealed to the insurgent group to release the official unharmed in the interest and welfare of the Garo Hills.

A conglomeration of civil bodies, including Garo Students Union (GSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People FKJGP and Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), also appealed to the militants for the official�s safe and early release. �We appeal to the militants not to disturb the overall well-being of the society so that the peace and tranquility should be maintained in the South Garo Hills region,� a joint appeal by civil societies said.
