Baby delivered in ward, instead of labour room!

By Correspondent

BARPETA, Oct 29 Amidst reports of chaos and misbehaviour by the employees, a pregnant woman had to deliver her baby on the bed of the ward instead of the labour room at the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital here.

Besides, close relatives of the patient were allegedly physically manhandled by the security staff when they wanted to enter the hospital in an effort to help the ill-fated woman.

As alleged by the attendants of the patient, Hiramani Deka, wife of Harjyoti Deka, a resident of Sutiapara near Barpeta was brought to the hospital at about 7.30 am on Monday. But there was no doctor available to attend on the patient. Ultimately, the woman delivered a baby at around 10.30 am.

As the relatives of the woman waiting outside the ward were intimated about the delivery, the mother of the woman requested to be allowed to enter inside with some essential items required at that moment. However, she was reportedly pushed back by the security personnel at the entrance.

The matter was subsequently intimated to the deputy superintendent of the hospital in the absence of the superintendent, who, it is said, did not take the matter seriously. The relatives of the patient later met the superintendent of police and lodged a complaint against the highhandedness by the security personnel.
