By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Nov 28 - Paltan Bazar police late last night arrested general secretary of Basketball Association of Assam Mukut Medhi for his alleged involvement in cheating and fraudulent activities. He was arrested based on a complaint filed by some parents of young basketball players.

In the complaint the parents alleged that Medhi mentally and physically harassed some players of under-14 category in the name of sending them to participate in national level competition. According to the complaint, Medhi manipulated all facts and sent the Assam sub-junior (under-14) team for the 45th sub-junior national basketball championship 2018, despite non-inclusion of the team for the tournament held in Himachal Pradesh recently.

In the complaint the parents also said, The Basketball Association of Assam had selected the sub-junior team during summer camp and asked all those who were selected to deposit Rs 7,500 as registration fee. The association also instructed all the parents to carry all the selected players in their own custody which is not a normal practice as per rules.

The parents alleged that when they tried to raise their voice against the cheating, Medhi threatened them with dire consequences through WhatsApp messages and over phone.
