NALBARI, Dec 5 - As part of the ongoing Matru Vandana Week, the Nalbari district administration in collaboration with the District Social Welfare department, took out an awareness rally in Nalbari town on Wednesday.

The awareness rally, which started from the Nalbari Gurdon Field, was flagged off by Nitul Deka, chairman of the Nalbari Zila Parishad. District Development Commissioner Ashini Kumar Dole and Zila Parishad CEO Krishna Baruah attended the inaugural programme. The meeting, presided over by Ashini Kumar Dole, was also addressed by Padmeswari Saikia.

The Matru Vandana Saptah, a week-long maternity benefit programme under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), was launched by Nitul Deka at a function held at the DRDA Conference Hall on Tuesday.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Krishna Baruah said there was a need for wide publicity of the scheme because a large number of women were still unaware about the noble programme. She called upon social welfare officials to execute work related to the scheme on a mission mode to achieve the target.
