Awareness programmes, walks mark Diabetes Day

GUWAHATI, Nov 14 - Apollo Hospitals, Guwahati, observed World Diabetes Day today by organising a series of events on its campus and at its associated corporate house.

Diabetes Day is a health awareness day observed worldwide every year with the objective of raising awareness about diabetes and support for sufferers.

In consonance with this year�s theme of the day, �The Family and Diabetes�, Apollo Hospitals is providing complementary random blood sugar tests for the patients� attendants in the hospital and also providing discount on further consultation and in-house laboratory investigation as per requirement.

Over 150 employees of the office were screened by the hospital team, a press release said.

Marwari Hospitals and Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), Assam Chapter in association with Lions Club of Kamrupa organised a diabetes awareness camp at Marwari Hospitals today.

As part of the camp, Marwari Hospitals offered free BP, BMI, retinopathy, biothesiometry and diabetes screening for all. Additionally, 50 per cent discount on ECG charges was made available for the benefit of the masses. Around a hundred patients attended the event.

The diabetes awareness programme and other offers will continue on November 15, 16 and 17 from 9 am to 11 am.

Sun Valley Hospital celebrated the day with an awareness procession and a free diabetes screening camp. Over a hundred people took part in the camp. Other highlights of the day included an open session on diabetes and its prevention.

Piramal Swasthya celebrated World Diabetes Day in collaboration with the NCD Cell, National Health Mission, Assam and World Diabetes Foundation, Denmark, with participation of staff, invitees and general public. The event began with a �diabetes walk� from the PSMRI premises at Bamunimaidam to Chandmari.

Around 150 people participated in the walk to spread awareness about diabetes and its prevention. Leaflets with important facts about diabetes were distributed among the people. This was followed by an awareness song and a streetplay on diabetes awareness, followed by a scientific session on the topic �The Family and Diabetes�.

The faculty and students of Rahman Institute of Nursing and Para-medical Sciences observed World Diabetics Day by organising a diabetes screening camp at Indian Bank, Beltola branch. The staff and customer visiting the bank on the day were screen for diabetes. Around 250 people were screened.
