Awareness prog on traditional misbelief held at Dokmoka

GUWAHATI, July 2 - An awareness programme was conducted yesterday at the Dengaon HS School, Dokmoka, Karbi Anglong on traditional misbelief organised by Assam Science Society, Guwahati in association with Advanced Level Institutional Biotech Hub, Gauhati University, stated a press release.

More than 60 village headmen (gaonburhas), social activists, teachers and students of Dokmoka, Karbi Anglong attended the programme. At the very outset, Prof Abani Kumar Bhagawati, Department of Geography, Gauhati University described the traditional agricultural practices and their scientific validation with some suitable examples. He also mentioned about the relationship among the Karbis and the Assamese people.

In this context, Prof Mohan Chandra Kalita, coordinator, Advanced Level Institutional Biotech Hub, Gauhati University, mentioned about the spread of traditional misbelief in the hill areas as well as the plain areas. He also talked about the scientific evidence of the traditional misbelief.

Regarding the misconception on supadhara, Dr Pradyumna Goswami, assistant professor, Govt Ayurvedic College, Guwahati and Dr Pankaj Bharali, Gauhati University created awareness scientific awareness among the students so that they give up the concept of supadhara.

The members of the Howraghat branch of Assam Science Society and other local organisations and eminent persons like Bidya Singnar, Bhabananda Khaklary, Prabin Nath, Aswini Narzary participated in the event as guests to make the event a success.

In the event, books published by Assam Science Society were also distributed among the participants.
