Awareness play on sexual abuse of children

GUWAHATI, Aug 25 - Sexual abuse of children is a serious and widespread problem increasing day by day in India and in many parts of the world. Every second child experiences some kind of sexual abuse till he/she attains the age of 18.

It is mostly children between 5-12 years of age who have experienced forced sexual violence involving physical contact. A report says 95 per cent of the abusers are known to the child and only five per cent of the abusers are strangers.

Keeping this in focus, an awareness play was staged against child sexual abuse in six schools of Guwahati � Chenikuthi LP School, Panbazar Girls� Higher Secondary School, Lal Singh Primary School, Lal Singh Academy, Manipuri Basti LP School and Manipuri Basti High School in the first phase on Thursday by Sakhi � One Stop Centre for Women, Kamrup (M) run by the North East Voluntary Association for Rural Development (NEVARD) in collaboration with Prayakh Natya Gosthi and NEF College of Management & Technology, Guwahati.
