Awareness event on hernia

GUWAHATI, Oct 23 - A workshop and continuing medical education (CME) programme on hernia was held at GNRC Hospitals here recently. Over a hundred doctors, aspiring to enhance healthcare delivery system, took part in the event, which was also attended by eminent bariatric surgeon from Kolkata, Dr Sarfaraz J Baig.

The workshop concentrated on topics like recurrent ventral hernia, recurrent inguinal hernia and umbilical hernia repair, while the CME focused on subjects like evolution of hernia surgery, hernia in rural India, recent developments in hernia surgery and current status of laparoscopic hernia repair.

The workshop was conducted by Prof (Dr) Manoj K Choudhury.

Inaugurating the event Dr Nomal Chandra Borah, chairman-cum-managing director, GNRC, said, �As a medical professional, we need continuous information about the recent developments in the field of medical science not only to educate ourselves, but also to keep abreast of the latest trends which ultimately translates into better patient care in the long run.�

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nipanka Goswami, organising secretary of the CME committee and a general surgeon working with GNRC group of hospitals, said, �The objective of the programme is to create awareness among the common people. The surgeries were performed free of cost to help some people from the low income group of society.�
