Award conferred on Nirupama Bargohain

GUWAHATI, Dec 16 � Eminent novelist and short-story writer Nirupama Bargohain has been selected for the �Prajna Ratna� award instituted for the first time by the Kamrup Mahanagar Zila Sahitya Sabha.

The award will be presented to Bargohain at the bi-annual session of the Sabha at 9 am on December 25. The meet will be presided over by senior journalist DN Chakravartty.

Bargohain � acclaimed as one of the most prolific and powerful writers of the modern generation � has to her credit a number of novels. A recipient of Sahitya Akademi award, she has won many other awards and accolades.

Bargohain who also shone as a journalist was instrumental in building up the weekly Neelachal as one of the most powerful journals in Assam.
