GUWAHATI, April 10: The Kamrup Metropolitan administration today began a three-day intensive COVID-19 testing drive in commercial establishments, offices and religious institutions.

Most of the COVID-19 positive cases in the district are being detected in Guwahati now.

Today, 33 teams were deployed in five zones in Guwahati for carrying out the tests. Among the institutions covered were IOCL and FCI in East Zone, Dimoria College, Don Bosco University, Sonapur College etc., under Sonapur Block PHC, Central Jail, Kalakshetra, ISBT, Police Reserve, 4th AP Bn, Satribari Nursing College, Hayat Hospital and Excelcare Hospital.

While 6,833 tests were done during the day, sixty-one people were found to be positive in Rapid Antigen tests.

The drive was also carried out at the Kamakhya Temple.

On an average, 800 to 1,500 people are now visiting the revered shrine atop the Nilachal Hill. The Chaitra Navaratri and Basanti Puja will be observed at the temple from April 13. Though normally there is a huge rush of devotees during the festivals, the temple authorities expect a lesser turnout this time.
