Authentication of domestic elephants on in Cachar dist

SILCHAR, Nov 18 - The Cachar Forest Division has initiated steps for verification of domestic elephants in the district.

According to Divisional Forest Officer Sunny Deo Choudhury, as many as 11 elephants registered under the division which are owned by different individuals were brought to the Monierkhal Range under Sonai Forest Beat for inspection and chip authentication.

�An exercise was carried out to autheticate the domestic elephants and verify the chips meant for their unique identification. The owners of the elephants were asked not engage the elephants in any illegal activities and to keep the Forest Department informed about the movements of the jumbos,� Choudhury said.

On the other hand, the DFO informed that steps are being taken to set up an amusement park so that tourists coming to this region could enjoy elephant rides.

�We are on the lookout for a suitable location for a park to offer elephant rides to the people,� the DFO maintained.
