AU professor to attend prog at Rashtrapati Bhawan

SILCHAR, May 24 � Dr Himadri Shekhar Das, associate professor of the department of Physics at Assam University, has been invited to join a programme, �Inspired Teachers� in-residence programme, at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.

According to the varsity sources, Dr Das is among the 29 teachers from respective central universities of the country who have been invited to join the six day in-residence programme beginning from June 6. Besides, interacting with the President Pranab Mukherjee in a three-hour session on topics pertaining to education, the invited teachers will attend sessions with Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and some other Cabinet members. The visiting teachers will also be taken for an educational tour across the capital city and to institutes like Kumar Mangalam University, Amity University, Gautam Buddha University etc., followed by cultural events and screening of films.

Further, as a part of the schedule, the inspired teachers will also hold meetings with representatives of FICCI, IBM, Microsoft, and Intel.

Expressing his reactions on being invited at the educational meet, Dr Das said �It is a proud moment for me to represent Assam University in the programme. When I had applied, I never thought that I will be selected for this. I am looking forward to the meeting and hope there will be plenty to learn.� It may be mentioned that Dr Das was awarded Indo-US Research Fellowship for the year 2013 by Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), a joint initiative of the Governments of India and America.
