ATTSA members protest police action

DIBRUGARH, Nov 24 � Members of the Assam Tea Tribe Students� Association (ATTSA) and tea garden workers of Tamulbari tea estate today demonstrated in front of the Sadar Police Station here in protest against picking up of two innocent boys last night from the tea estate by a joint team of CRPF and police from Ghuramara police outpost, some 16 kilometres from here.

Although the two boys � Nasik Tanti and Laxman Rai�were released this morning, the protestors demonstrated for about an hour in front of the Sadar PS and later submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner through the Additional Superintendent of Police Pranjit Borah, stating that they would agitate more intensely if innocent members of their community were picked up in future.

Police had picked the youths relying on some inputs, which turned out to be false, according to Additional SP.

After dispersing, the demonstrators later gheraoed the Ghuramar police out post and demanded explanation from the police on the incident.
