Attractions galore at Alcheringa 2011

GUWAHATI, Feb 1 � Vodafone Essar today announced Alcheringa 2011, the annual cultural festival of IIT Guwahati, a press release stated.

Alcheringa will be held from February 3 to 6 and will host a wide array of cultural performances across various genres. The festival will have performances by singer KK, RDB (Rythm Dhol Bass), fusion band Advaita and rock band Motherjane. Tabla maestro Aditya Kalyanpur, Sarode player Arnab Chakrabarty and virtuoso sitar player Vinayak Chittar will perform the opening act at the classical night, popularly known as �Saaz�.

In addition, IIT Guwahati will see its first ever theatre festival, with acclaimed plays such as �Kachche Lamhe� and �The Hallway Chronicles�. A drama adapted from Gulzaar�s story Seema, �Kachche Lamhe� is written by Javen Siddiqi and directed by Salim Arif. The play stars television and Bollywood actors Kiran Karmakar, Harsh Chhaya and Lubna Salim. The theatre festival will also showcase Stray Factory�s comical play �Hallway Chronicles�, a play based on students� life at colleges. The Sangeet Natak Academy award winner Moinul Haque will also perform one of his renowned mime acts as a part of the theatre festival. Another major addition to the performing arts repertoire of Alcheringa is a dance performance by the Daksha Seth Dance Company, led by ace dancer. Isha Sharvani.

The discussions and workshops module of Alcheringa will see actress Shriya Saran talking about mainstream movies and Padma Shri awardee Sudhir Tailang delivering a workshop on caricature and the art of cartooning. Also present would be the Miss India Universe 2010 Ushoshi Sengupta, to raise awareness against AIDS. The festival will also host the East India leg of the Indian Soduku championship.

The event is packed with exciting activities and performances and it will definitely give us a better chance to interact and integrate with the young students from the region�.
