Attack on scribe at Dhakuakhana flayed

DHEMAJI, Sept 30 - Members of several organisations staged a two-hour sit-in protest in front of the Ganesh Gogoi Auditorium at Dhakuakhana town on Tuesday against the recent attack on local journalist Amrit Paban Bora by some miscreants.

Demanding immediate arrest of the accused, members of the Dhakuakhana subdivision unit of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU), local unit of All Tai Ahom Students� Union (ATASU), Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Schedule Caste Students� Union, Jain-Samaj, Dhakuakhana, Missing People Justice Forum, Dhemaji District Journalists� Association, Press Guild, Dhakuakhana, Gogamukh Press Club, Machkhowa Press Club, Dhakuakhana District Senior Citizens� Association, Dhauakhana Block Congress, Dhakuakhana district committee of AGP, CPI(M) etc., staged the protest from 1 pm to 3 pm in front of the Ganesh Gogoi Auditorium at Dhakuakhana town.

Later, a protest meeting was organised and the police urged to arrest the accused within 24 hours. They also warned of organising a massive agitation programme if the local administration is unsuccessful in nabbing the accused.

The protest meeting was also attended by Bharat Chandra Narah, press adviser to Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, and former local MLA. He condemned the attack and assured the activitists of all assistance in nabbing the accused soon.

It�s worth mentioning that journalist Amrit Paban Bora had been attacked by two unidentified persons with an iron bar on Saturday evening when he was returning home. Bora was admitted to Dhakuakhana Civil Hospital. Later, an FIR was lodged with Dhakuakhana Police Station in this connection.
