Attack on Assam journalists condemned

ITANAGAR, Feb 1 � The Press fraternity of Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday vehemently condemned the alleged police atrocity on a lady journalist and a video journalist inside the Latasil police station premises at Guwahati on Saturday.

The members of Arunachal Press Club (APC), Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and Arunachal Electronic Media Association (AEMA), in a meeting at the Press Club here, strongly slammed the incident and demanded immediate action against the cops responsible for the unfortunate incident.

Terming the incident as a matter of serious concern for the freedom of Press in a democratic country, the press bodies extended moral support to the ongoing protest by the media fraternity at Guwahati.

They demanded fair justice to the victims and urged the Assam Government to take stern action against the guilty police personnel to set an example and ensure that voice of the media guaranteed by the Constitution of India is not muzzled.

In a letter to the Electronic Media Forum of Assam, the press bodies conveyed that Arunachal media fraternity extends moral support for the greater interest of media fraternity of the region while wishing speedy recovery of both the journalists injured in the incident.
