By Saba Nayakan

KOLKATA, Nov. 22 - Atletico de Kolkata played like the defending champions to annihilate FC Goa 4-0 in the Hero ISL-2 at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Sunday. The teams best showing so far in the tournament lifted the side to 20 points from six victories and two draws in 12 games.

FC Goa, fluent 7-0 winners against Mumbai in the previous encounter, looked a pale shadow of the team that led the table with 18 points. This was Goas third loss in 11 games. The first encounter between the two teams was 1-1 draw. Sameehg Doutie (78, 20th minutes), Iain Hume (67) and Borja Fernandez (22) were ATK scorers.

With 51,000 spectators watching the grand display of ATK would await Pune and Mumbai in the next two games to seal the knockout berth.

The home side continued to dominate as a demoralised Goa began to fade in the second half.

In the process, the visitors conceded the third goal through a penalty. Doutie, very active on the left flank, tried to move through a crowded defence and was brought down by Nicolau Caloco. The resultant spot kick was converted by Iain Hume, who scored his sixth.

ATK went into halftime with 2-0 advantage after enduring the visitors strong game in the first-half. Dudu was in the verge of scoring but on both occasions he failed FC Goa.

ATKs second goal was due to brilliant execution by Borja Fernandez. Sameehg Doutie layed the ball on to his skipper who, waiting on the edge of the left side of the box, connected sweetly to blast it past Kattimani into the top left corner. The Spaniard broke his drought, his last goal was in the opening match of the first season.

Amidst Goas pressing football came ATKs first goal when Jaime Gavilan put Doutie through with a defence splitting pass. The South African made no mistake with his finish.
