ASTU to organise 1st NE Hackathon on Sept 3-4

GUWAHATI, Aug 25 - Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) will organise the first Northeast Hackathon at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre here on September 3 and 4. The event is being organised under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (Phase-III) of the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development and in association with Startup Assam.

The competition is being organised for all students across North East India in the focus sectors pertinent to the region, like handloom and textile, tourism, water management, energy, environment and sustainability, food technology, etc.

To participate in the competition, one needs to submit a presentation in the form of a business plan of the idea or project in different emerging technologies for a sustainable product or service. The two-day event will also consist of workshops, competitions, brainstorming and expert training sessions, etc., to develop the problem-solving approach through designing, thinking and understanding the startup culture with newer insights and emerging technological innovations.

The competition will be judged by a panel of eminent experts from different key sectors, who will be scrutinising the participants concerning the approach of the problem statements, elevator pitch round and final presentation. The top three participants will be rewarded in the form of prize money � Rs 1,50,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50, 000. Other winners of the competition will be incubated at the Assam Science and Technology University Startup Cell for further progress and guidance.

�We are glad that after the success of last year�s Hackathon, we are again coming up with more innovative ideas this year for the students across North East India. The mission of organising the Hackathon is to develop the problem-solving approach and encourage the startup ecosystem amongst students by identifying the best latent talents across different colleges of North East India, where two or three startups can originate from the campuses in their respective fields,� said Assam Science and Technology University Vice Chancellor Prof Dhiraj Bora in a statement.

Hackathon is a sporting activity with the game being played with a brainstorm. It is a thought process to encourage innovation amongst the students of different institutes in the form of convention. The concept of the Northeast Hackathon is to develop the startup environment, its upgradate and incubation of the students across different colleges of the region, which will create sustainable development across the various sectors.
