Association of differently able suspends stir plan

GUWAHATI, Aug 14 - The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam, for the time being, has decided not to stage the protest it had announced to demand dues under the Deen Dayal Divyangjan Pension Scheme.

According to Sangstha secretary Nripen Malakar, a meeting was convened today with government officials where the latter assured the Sangstha to meet the demand by August 20.

Earlier, the differently-abled people of the State, under the Sangstha banner, had decided to stage protests throughout the State on August 15 to register their demands.

Under the scheme, a beneficiary receives Rs 1,000 per month as a monthly pension. Malakar said the differently-abled people of Assam have been deprived of this benefit. There are 1,60,612 beneficiaries under the said scheme.
