NALBARI, Sept 15 - In a unique concept probably the first of its kind in the state, the Nalbari district administration has constructed a green gallery stadium at Mukalmua in the district which will be inaugurated by Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Naba Kumar Doley at a function to be held tomorrow.

The green gallery stadium has been constructed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Act (MGNREGA) scheme of the Central government. It will be handed over to the Mukalmua Anchalik Sports Association on Sunday.

During the 2017-18 financial year, the Nalbari Zilla Parishad sanctioned an amount of Rs 70 lakh through the Barkshetri development block to give shape to the project. It also sanctioned another Rs 20 lakh from the 13th and 14th Finance Commission. Local MLA Narayan Deka also provided an amount of Rs 4 lakh for the construction of a stage-cum-VIP gallery at the stadium.

Nalbari Zilla Parishad CEO Krishna Baruah said a special kind of grass has been planted in the field as well as the gallery which was brought from a nursery in Guwahati.

Drains have been built on all four sides of the field to drain out rain water from the field. It is expected that the new green gallery sports stadium will provide an opportunity for more sports activities in the neighbouring rural areas.
