Assamese diaspora to celebrate Bihu in Dubai

GUWAHATI, April 22 � The diaspora from Assam at the UAE is all set to celebrate the Rongali Bihu on April 29 in the glitzy desert city of Dubai, an e-mail received here stated. The landmark India Club has been chosen as the venue for the event which is a formal culmination of festivities that take place in various households in the community. It is a much awaited event for all those who yearn for the magic of bihutolis at this time of the year.

It was in 1999 when the UAE first witnessed the Rongali Bihu celebrations in an organised way. With each passing year, the celebrations have grown in scale and grandeur thanks to the tireless efforts of the Axom Xamaj, UAE and active participation from each and every member of the community. Rehearsals for the big day are under way in every household and everyone is eager to put his best foot forward as it is a rare opportunity in a foreign land to showcase the cultural mosaic that is Assam.

Over the years, acclaimed artistes from the Assamese music and tinsel world have graced the Bihu celebrations in the UAE and this year will be no exception. Barasha Rani Bishaya, the darling of the Assamese silver screen, the versatile Diganta Bharati and noted percussionist Partha Goswami will be the star attractions and fans here are expecting a grand performance by the trio, the e-mail added.
