GUWAHATI, March 14 - The Kamrup Natya Samiti will celebrate Assamese Cinema Day on March 20 to commemorate the screening of Jyotiprasad Agarwala�s Joymoti in the Kamrup Natya Samiti auditorium (Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir) on March 20, 1935.

The decision to celebrate the day was taken a meeting at the Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir that was presided over by Dhiren Baruah, president of the Kamrup Natya Samiti Centenary Celebration Committee.

Many well-known personalities associated with the project, including Bimal Kumar Medhi, Dilip Hazarika, Jagannath Das, Rupjyoti Hazarika, Balo Hazarika, Bani Bikram Sarma, Kailash Sarma, Bijit Pradip Das, Pawan Barua, Ranju Goswami among others were present on the occasion.

Since the reconstruction of Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir is under way, the programme will be held at the Bishnu Nirmala Trust, Latasil. A State-level open quiz competition based on Jyotiprasad Agarwala and his film Joymoti, a memorial lecture, release of a souvenir and screening of Joymoti will form part of the programme. The programme will be organised in association with the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Foundation and Pragjyoti Communications.
