SILCHAR, Feb 3 � Prof Ramendu Bhattacharjee, pro-Vice Chancellor of Assam University Silchar passed away on Saturday at his brother�s residence here.
According to varsity sources, Bhattacharjee suffered a cardiac arrest. He was 57 is survived by his wife and son.
His body was taken to the university on Sunday wherein the academic fraternity, including Prof Somnath Dasgupta, vice chancellor and other staff members, paid their last respects. Faculty members and staff of the Department of Physics of the university also paid tributes to Prof Bhattacharjee.
Thereafter, his body was sent to Shillong for the last rites.
Bhattacharjee joined the university in 1997. He had served in various positions, including Dean, Students Welfare, proctor, and Dean, School of Technologies. He was the pro-Vice Chancellor of the university�s Diphu campus before joining as the pro-Vice Chancellor at Silchar.
