Assam Valley Award presented

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, May 9 The 24th Assam Valley Literary Award was presented today to litterateur Atulananda Goswami, who has captivated the literary world through the genre of short story and carved out his own unique narrative style of expression.

The award, carrying a citation, a trophy and Rs 4 lakh, was presented to Goswami by novelist, short story writer and critic Damodar Mauzo at a function held at the Pragjyoti ITA Centre for Performing Arts here.

The award was instituted in 1990 by the Williamson Magor Education Trust with the objective of honouring those stalwarts who have enriched Assamese literature through their contributions.

Accepting the honour, Goswami spoke about his literary journey and about those individuals who in some way or the other touched his life and broadened his horizon.

More than receiving awards, certain incidents related to my life as a story writer will always be memorable, said Goswami adding that he feels elated when readers mention before him the characters, images and incidents from his short stories. He described such response from readers as very encouraging for a writer and equated it to receiving an award.
