GUWAHATI, April 1 - A fake message is being circulated in various social media platforms since last night stating that veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi has joined the BJP.
The message is a screenshot of a portion of The Assam Tribune newspaper � April 1 edition � with the masthead.
The main headline reads �Tarun Gogoi joins BJP�. It also has an old picture of a one-on-one meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi.
Many people claimed to have got the forwarded message. However, the source of the message could not be ascertained.
The matter is being taken up with senior police officials.
�It can be charged under various sections of the IT Act and other laws,� an official said.
A formal complaint is also being lodged with the police.
