By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 11 - Assam has topped the list of the states in implementing the Dindayal Upadhaya Gramjyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) during the past week. Under this scheme electrification has been done in 105 villages of the country during the past week, said sources in the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL).

Under the scheme, six villages in Arunachal Pradesh have been electrified during the past week, while three villages in Odisha, 12 villages each in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh and one village in Himachal Pradesh have been electrified during the same period.

Assam could electrify 33 villages under this scheme during the above time period, said the sources.

So far, 7,654 villages of the country have been electrified. In 10,798 villages there is no human habitation. Grid-connected power would be supplied to 6,989 villages, while 2,977 villages would be provided power from local sources because of geographical obstacles to draw power from the grid. The state governments would supply power to 387 villages on their own.

Since the beginning of this mission, 1,654 villages of the country were electrified between April 2015 and August 18, 2015. Between August 15, 2015 and May 8 this year, additional 6,000 villages of the country have been covered under this scheme, said the sources.
