Assam Rifles outshoot Green Valley, in final

GUWAHATI, March 18 � Assam Rifles cruised through to the final of the 4th Airtel State Premier League edging out Green Valley Sports Club by an aggregate of 5-4 goals in sudden death after playing a 1-1 draw.

It was a well contested second semifinal of the championship at the Nehru Stadium here today, Sanjeeva Rongpi put Green Valley ahead in the 10th minute off a 40-yard set piece (1-0). In the 54th minute, Ajit Kumar Singh fired the equaliser (1-1), also from a free kick. Both the teams failed to break the deadlock in the remaining part of the match despite making some valiant efforts.

In the tie-breaker, Ajit Kumar Singh and Bulu Jigdung missed the first two shots but D Mukhin, Meikingai Kamei and Leishangthem Santa Singh hit the target from the 12-yard spot.

For Green Valley, Sanjeev Rongpi and Salau Nurudeen Olawale were the successful shooters while Jenga Rongmei and Gaihama Rongmei missed the target.

In sudden death, Kuman Naoba Singh converted his shot while substitute Y Bobo Singh shot was wide.

The final will be played on March 20.
