GUWAHATI, March 21 � Assam will play against Mumbai in the AC Barik table tennis meet organised on the occasion of the 36th National Convention of the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) here today. The Assam team comprising of Tauhid Ali Talukder, Subodh Mallah Baruah and Pabitra Gogoi, beat Kolkata 2-0 in the quarterfinal and overcame Uttar Pradeh by the same margin in the semifinals. Mumbai in their semifinal beat Tamil Nadu 2-0. Earlier, the table tennis tournament was inaugurated by Arjuna Award winner Monalisa Baruah Mehta.
On the other hand, in the JK Bose cricket tournament, North thrashed East by a huge margin of 92 runs. Batting first, North plied up 170 in their 20 overs. Amit Choudhury scored 76 and Bijoy Kumar scored 17. For East, Kishore Talukder, Subodh Mallah Baruah And Tauhid Ali Talukder took 1 wicket each. In reply, East in 16.1 over scored 78 runs. Rajdeep Das and Tauhid scored 23 and 16 rus respectively. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Assam Cricket Association secretary Bikash Baruah.
In the other match of the day played at the Judges� Field, South beat West by 7 wickets. West riding on a fine knock of 43 runs by Devendra Pegu scored 174 runs. In reply, South reached the target in 17.5 overs. For South, Ashok Viswanath scored a good 64 runs. The cricket meet was inaugurated by Assam Cricket Association secretary Bikash Baruah.
