GUWAHATI, April 3 � Riding on encouraging performances by Sib Sankar Roy and Abu Nechim Ahmed, Assam registered their second consecutive victories in the East Zone Syed Mustaq Ali T20 Cricket tournament.
At the Jadavpur University complex, at Kolkata today, Assam defeated Tripura by 11 runs. In reply to Assam�s 152 all out, Tripura scored 141 for eight.
Assam skipper Gokul Sharma elected to bat first after calling the coin correctly and scored a challenging 152 all out with two balls to spare. Sib Sankar Roy cracked 53 off 36 balls which was studded with eight boundaries. Pritom Debnath added an useful 35 off 24 balls with two fours and as many sixers. But the other batsmen could not do justice. Sib Sankar and Pritom yielded 79 runs for the fifth wicket which finally proved to most vital.
The Tripura batsmen had a dismal beginning losing three wickets for 35. After that, Yogesh Vijay Takawale (36) and Nirupam Nabarun Sen (24) and tailender Tusar Swapan Saha (22) tried to repair the damage but finally failed to reach the target as they were restricted to 141. Abu Nechim Ahmed came out with four wickets which virtually wrecked the Tripura innings.
