Assam Police SB to be automated

By SANJOY RAY

GUWAHATI, June 8 The Special Branch of Assam Police, primarily tasked to keep a tab on the States internal security and assess the threat percept, is going for automation from next year.

The automation of the Special Branch of Assam Police will be done to enable swift interaction and sharing of intelligence inputs with the heads of all the 30 police districts of Assam, and that too at the click of the mouse (tele conferencing).

It would also add teeth to the process of constant sharing of intelligence fed to other agencies of the country, including the Intelligence Bureau.

Besides, it would also facilitate the Assam Police in establishing contacts with its counterparts in other States and sharing profile and background of listed criminals for necessary action.

Further, experts are of the opinion that the automation drive will ensure time-bound delivery of public service, especially those related to verification of individuals.

The automation process billed as one of the biggest technological interventions in the Assam Police is expected to prove vital in combating designs of insurgent groups active in the State.

Assam will arguably be one of the few States in India to have such facilities on a permanent basis.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, a top Assam Police official said, More than anything else, the automation will give more time to react to any kind of threat during a crisis situation.

It would further help the law enforcers to assess the situation better. With changing times where new means are adopted by the wrongdoers, such an added feature to policing should act as a deterrent, he said.

The pre-bid meeting would be convened very soon. Already, the primary paper work is being taken care of and proposals from a number of agencies have been sought in this regard. Once the proposals arrive, a committee will sit over and decide on it, the official said.
