Assam Police Association�s biennial meet concludes

DERGAON, Dec 28 - Assam Police should be modernised and granted more independence, stated the DIG of Western Range, Dr GV Shiva Prasad while speaking at the open meeting of the 40th biennial session of the All Assam Police Association (AAPA) held here on Sunday.

The DIG urged the Association to be more active in strengthening the police service.

The meeting was attended by outgoing president Binod Kalta and moderated by All Assam Police Association general secretary Taheruddin Ahmed. Principal of the Police Training College, Debashish Sarma, offered his welcome address while retired vice principal of DKD College Prabhat Chandra Mahanta delivered his speech as the guest of honour.

The DIG (Training) MI Mandal released a souvenir published on the occasion. Journalist Sanjoy Kumar Hazarika and retired librarian Atul Bora also spoke. The newly-elected president of All Assam Police Association Hemanta Goswami also spoke a few words whlie Taheruddin Ahmed highlighted different resolutions adopted in the meeting.

Earlier in the morning, the inaugural edition of the Mungilal Agarwala Memorial All-Assam Debate Competition on the topic �Public should be more vigilant than the government in curbing corruption,� was held as a part of the biennial meet.

The top three prize winners of the event were Anjuman Parasar (JB College, Jorhat), Dibyajyoti Nath (DKD College, Dergaon) and Mrinmoy Bora (Bahona College, Jorhat), respectively. Retired librarian Atul Bora and writer Haripad Choudhury were the judges.

Taheruddin Ahmed thanked all for making the entire meet a success.
