Assam players shine in KIIT chess

GUWAHATI, June 2 - Altogether 15 players, mostly in below 14 years and few senior players from Assam took part in the KIIT International Chess Festival organised by KIIT University and Orrisa Chess Association under the aegis of All India Chess Federation from May 25 to June 1 in Orissa. Biswajit Bharadwaj, FIDE arbiter from Assam was also nominated as an arbiter in this event and received an International Arbiter norm from it. Shahil Dey, Dhrupad Kashyap and Manthan Kashyap Dutta participated in the category A Grandmaster event which witnessed a total of 293 participant from 24 countries.

Dhrupad Kashyap of Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti School was the top performer scoring 5 points out of possible 10 and increased his fide Rating by 92 points. While Manthan Kashyap Dutta a student of DPS Guwahati scored 4.5 points and increased his rating by 106 points. On the other hand Mrinmoy Rajkhowa, a student of Sudershan Public School Guwahati scored 6 points out of 9 rounds and secured best U-8 prize in the C category.
