Assam pacers dominate Day-1

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 7 - Assam pacers Krishna Das and Dhiraj Goswami, who was included in the team in the last minute, rocked the Haryana first innings grabbing four and three wickets respectively on the opening day of the four-day Group A Ranji Trophy match at the CH Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium, Lahli, Rohtak.

Opting to bat first, the host team, sans their star batsman Virender Sehwag, was in trouble soon on the lively Lahli wicket as Krishna and Dhiraj restricted them for 140 for seven at stumps.

After losing the openers at the total of 20, Himangshu Rana (56 off 119 balls) and Rohit Sharma (not out 41 off 121 balls) repaired the early damage and added 73 runs for the third wicket partnership. But as the partnership was broken by Dhiraj in the 37th over, Haryana started losing wickets at regular intervals and finally lost their seventh wicket in the 60th over when stumps were drawn for the day.

Apart from Himangshu and Rohit other batsmen miserably failed to handle the hot stuffs of Krishna and Dhiraj who justified his inclusion in the team. Wicketkeeper Rahul Dalal (17) was only other batsman to reach double figure.
