GUWAHATI, May 16 � Assam were eleminated from the 66th edition of Senior National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy.
In their last Cluster VII league match at Bhubaneswar, Orissa today Assam were beaten 2-0 by Haryana.
A draw would have put Assam in the quarterfinal stage as it had better goal difference. But sturdy Haryana side netted one goal in each half and finished top in the group to enter the next round. Earlier, Assam defeated Sikkim 5-2 and Daman & Diu 6-0. Haryana also won both their previous matches againsh Sikkim and Daman & Diu.
In previous several editions, Assam have failed to lived up to exceptations and were out of the tournament in the very early stages.
