Assam heading towards top 5 in economic progress: Himanta

GUWAHATI, March 12 - The day is not far when Assam will be among the top five states of the country in good governance, economic progress, human development indicators and the overall happiness quotient of its people, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in his Budget speech today.

Sarma said Assam presents limitless potential for economic growth not only for the country but also for the entire South and South East Asia and is pivotal to the Act East Policy of the Union Government.

In recognition of this immense potential, a number of infrastructure projects are being implemented in the region with the aim of creating world-class connectivity through roads, rail, inland water transport and civil aviation.

He said emphasis was being given on mobile and Internet connectivity to ensure that every village and every citizen has access to the benefits of modern technology.

Over the last two years, the Government has worked tirelessly towards fulfilling the promise of transforming Assam as the land of three P�s � Potential, Possibility and Prosperity, he added.
