Assam has immense tourism potential

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 26 - While Assam with its amazing biodiversity and culture has all the potential to provide tourists an authentic experience, the State needs to overcome the infrastructure and seasonal challenges, an US expert has noted.

According to Dr Kelly Bricker, professor and director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism in the University of Utah, tour operators have been highlighting the States potential and people, too, are talking a lot about the State and the region in social media.

People are now looking at such authentic experiences. Assam has incredible attractions, Dr Bricker, who visited Kaziranga and its adjoining areas, said during a media interaction here.

Referring to an NGO working for conservation in Kaziranga, she said communities in the region have been doing excellent work with the little resources they have.

Dr Bricker also laid stress on the importance of sustainable tourism and underlined the need to strike a balance between development and conservation.

We need to bring all stakeholders together and realise their strengths. We need to start from the basics. We need infrastructure but at the same time we must also ensure that the communities have enough fresh water, a waste management and sewage system, she added.
