Assam boys clinch school football title

GUWAHATI, Feb 7 � Assam boys team became the proud winners in the 60th U-14 National School Games Football Tournament.

In the final played at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai here this evening Assam trounced Mizoram 3-1.

Bishnu Bordoloi (17th minute), Adarsh Ray Das (65th minute) and Aman Chetry (68th minute) were the scorers for the host team while Lal Famkima (53rd minute) reduced the margin for Mizoram. In the play-off match for the third position, Punjab beat Haryana 3-0 and won the bronze medal.

In the girls section Manipur edged past Meghalaya 1-0 to win the title. Ph Sanathokpi netted the all important goal for Manipur.

West Bengal thrashed Haryana 4-1 for the bronze medal.

The five-day championship was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare under the guidance of School Games Federation of India. Altogether 25 State teams took part in the meet.
