GUWAHATI, Feb 12 � The Assam boys team annexed the champions� title in the 17th Sub Junior National Netball Championship.
In the summit clash at the Sarusajai sports complex here today, Assam defeated Haryana 30-27 in a close match.
For Assam, Rupam Saikia and Udipta Borgohain were the leading scorers with 18 and 12 respectively. However, the Assam girls team had to be satisfied with the fourth position as they went down in both semifinal and the play off match for the third position between the losing semifinalists.
Karnataka bagged the silver medal in boys section defeating Rajasthan 28-25. Earlier, Assam beat Rajasthan 31-30 while Haryana downed Karnataka 32-27 in two boys semifinals.
In the girls category, Haryana got the better of Chattishgarh 29-25 in the summit clash. In the semifinals, Chattishgarh trounced Rajasthan 32-21 while Haryana outplayed Assam 34-26. For third position, Rajasthan beat Assam 28-20.
State Dr Nazrul Islam was introduced to the players before the final matches.
Altogether 336 boys and 294 girls from 22 States took part in the four-day championship which was organised bt Assam Netball Association.
